Blackburn’s extensive range of Dispelair® foam control agents are used during the production of paint, ink, varnishes and other surface coatings, both aqueous and non-aqueous

Castor oils and derivatives are used as sag control agents and thixotropic agent in paints, printing inks and other coatings.

Covestro provide a wide range of polyurethane raw materials used as the building blocks to formulate solvent borne, water borne, high-solid and UV-curable coatings used as metal primers, basecoats, topcoats and clearcoats. These products create exceptional coatings and are recognized globally as Bayhydrol®, Bayhydur®, Desmocap®, Desmocoll®, Desmodur®, Desmophen®, Impranil®, and Pergut®.

The performance properties of high-quality coating formulations can be specifically designed to fulfil individual application requirements; providing protection against scratches, abrasion, exposure to chemicals and weathering, whilst maintaining a visually appealing surface finish.

Dupont nitrocellulose and NC-chips are predominantly used as binders in printing inks and wood coatings, but also in a wide variety of other coatings applications, available in various product forms and viscosities. The nitrocellulose grades known under the brand name Walsroder™ are damped with isopropanol, ethanol or water and the NC-Chips are supplied with different grades of viscosity, plasticized with phthalate-free epoxidized soybean oil (ESO) or acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC).

A selection of coated and uncoated ground calcium carbonates (GCCs) from Imerys known as PolCarb™, ImerCarb™ and ImerSeal are utilized as extenders in decorative interior paints to control gloss levels and replace expensive components in formulations such as resins. In exterior paint formulations they also provide good weathering resistance and pH stabilization.

A range of DE and Perlite minerals from Imerys improve coating properties such as whiteness, opacity and gloss. Products for architectural coatings include; CelTiX® with excellent hiding power is used as a TiO2 replacement while maintaining tint strength, OptiMat® as an efficient matting aid, and EcoFlat® which contains low oil absorption for ease of formulation in low VOC systems offering excellent scrub and stain resistance.

A range of super-dispersible, calcined, FCC and hydrous kaolin minerals from Imerys enable the modification of important paint properties such as whiteness, opacity, gloss, rheology, stability and stain resistance. As well as controlling paint quality and performance, these minerals under the brand names Speswhite™, Polwhite™, Polsperse™, Opacilite™, Polstar™, Molochite™ and Devolite™, can also deliver significant TiO2 savings through formulation extension.

Lanxess’s iron oxide and chromium oxide pigments are well established in the paint and coatings industry under the brand names Bayferrox®, Colortherm® and Bayoxide®. The colour range includes yellows, oranges, reds, browns blacks and chromium oxide green and are characterized by their outstanding lightfastness, weather stability and chemical resistance in several applications including paints, coatings, and corrosion protection in varnishes/wood coatings.

Levaco supply a number of products used in emulsions, paints and coatings as dispersing agents, corrosion inhibitors, emulsifiers and rheology modifiers.

Nouryon’s Levasil® range of water-borne colloidal silicas are used in the coatings industry for prolonging open-time, improving hardness, pigment dispersion and durability, as well as improving anti-soiling properties. By using these products, you can create smooth, scratch resistant surfaces, non-stick coatings for industrial applications and excellent binders to shield steel and prevent corrosion.

Shin-Etsu’s Tylose® cellulose ethers optimize several coating properties such as: application consistency, water retention, binding power, storage stability., spattering, levelling, hiding power and film formation of coating formulations.
